Britain must not join a new European bailout of Greece as it plunges further into economic crisis, leading Conservative MPs have warned.

Senior politicians urged David Cameron to hold firm as Greece teetered on the brink of defaulting on massive debts.

With the country groaning under £285billion worth of sovereign debt, there is mounting pressure for European nations including Britain to join a bailout in order to safeguard the eurozone.

Billions of pounds of British taxpayers' money was used in the £77billion European Union bailout of Ireland last year despite strong opposition from MPs. The United Kingdom contributed around £7 billion in aid, including direct loans to Dublin.
